Free lot off A1A, fills up weekends
Open Atlantic beach south of Ponte Vedra. Drive-on sand launch (carry over the dunes from the lot). Ocean swell rolls through — eFoilers ride beyond the break zone where water flattens out. Best on light W/SW wind days before the sea breeze fills from the east.
Wide-open Atlantic beach. Full fetch to the east — any easterly wind builds onshore chop with no break. Dunes and beachfront homes to the west give real shelter from offshore winds (the clean-water case). North and south are continuous open beach with no headland to block alongshore wind. Shore break is the hazard layer near the launch — wider, flatter water sits 200-400m offshore beyond the break.
Wind Exposure
Open Atlantic exposure to the east — wind from the east blows directly onshore with full ocean fetch. Dunes and residential structures shelter west winds. North/south partial along the beach line.
Fetch & Chop Risk
Max fetch: 1000 mi to the East. Chop risk from: E, NE, SE winds.
Ride south along the dune line. Flat water, scenic views. Turn back at the channel marker.
Follow the deep channel north to the bridge and back. Watch for boat wakes.
Shore break can be strong on bigger swell — launch/recover past the breakers
Rip currents possible especially on outgoing tide and at high-tide notches
Surfers in the lineup — give right of way and stay outside the break
ESE sea breeze fills mid-morning — wind shifts onshore quickly
Sandbars shift after every storm — sandbar can dry out and create unexpected break
West or SW wind under 10 mph, small swell under 2ft. Early morning before sea breeze kicks in.
Park at the Mickler Beach lot (free). Carry over the dunes — moderate distance. Launch south of the main beach crowd to stay clear of swimmers and surfers. Morning glass usually holds until 10–11 AM before ESE sea breeze develops. On bigger swell days (3 ft+ at 10 sec+) check the break before walking your gear out — shore break can be heavy.
